Origin/Meaning: Kings In Writing (KIW) is the name of a legendary graffiti crew from Philadelphia, and Mattske has been affiliated with them for a number of years, writing a variety of monikers and handles across the country.

In Philadelphia, there is a longstanding tradition of generation after generation, learning how to write a specific mystic style of graffiti known as "wicked."

Some people may pronounce it "wicket," which has slightly different stylistic connotations, but the general idea is an emotional, energetic, spiritually valued style of handwriting on the walls.

To be a king of graffiti in Philadelphia, you must be able to throw these kinds of hands, including certain challenges like tagging using the cheapest possible cans from the hardware store with no special tips.

Mattske is a master of this art form, and learned on the streets of Philadelphia, writing a variety of different names and organizing decentralized activist campaigns.

The music of Kings In Writing (KIW) speaks from this perspective, tells stories about this kind of lifestyle, and brings back a boombap flavor that has been missing from mainstream Hip-Hop for a long time.
